THREE TIMES A YEAR
COUNCIL SHOULD MEET
CHAMBERLAIN'S PROPOSAL
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, 14th June. Sir Austen Chamberlain, who is presiding over the present session of the I League Council, yesterday repeated the suggestion made by Mm at the March meeting—that the Council should meet three, instead of four, times annually. Sir Austen assured the Council that he would not have introduced this suggestion had he thought that it would in any way impair the influence, authority, or usefulness of the League. >jrhe Council was now an established feature of international life,-and its work was becoming less and less complex. It' was reasonable to hope that-the number of questions for consideration would diminish rapidly. He felt therefore that no interest would suffer from the reduecd number of sessions annually. On the contrary, if the reduction in.the numbor of meetings would confirm the practice of Foreign Ministers to attend in person, then the proposal would certainly be to tho advantage of. the League. v QUESTION ADJOURNED. A question was adjourned until September, when it can have the. attention not only of the Assembly, but'of the! new Council,-whieh it directly affects. The *' Times " cites as -confirmation of j Sir Austen Chamberlain's.' argument that yesterday the agenda was completed by tho Council in the morning, leaving the rest of the day available for Committee work. Five European countries—Britain, Prance, Germany, Poland, and Belgium' —are represented at the seision by. their Foreign Ministers. •
