FLOOD OF APPLICATIONS

AUCKLAND, This Day. A striking commentary on the unemployed situation in Auckland was provided by the Dilworth Trust Board's advertisement for. a liftman and for a caretaker for the new building in Queen street. No loss than 565 applications were received, though there were 905 inquiries from all parts of tho Dominion about the two jobs.
"It i 3 one of tho saddest things I havo known in my life that so many men should be seeking work in Auckland," said the chairman (Archdeacon G. MaeMurray). "By conscientiously examining every application, I could pick out one hundred really good men without difficulty."
