FOR THE UNEMPLOYED
OFFICIAL STATEMENT
TO m MADE TO-DAY
The Government has prepared a statement dealing with tho. unemployment situation which it is anticipated will announce the extended relief works which are to be put in hand in accordance with the assurance given to a deputation some days ago.
A deputation of unemployed, organised by the District Council of liance of Labour, had been arranged to meet the Prime Minister and the Minister of Labour at 11 o'clock this morning, but the meeting was deferred until 3 p.m. as the Ministers had not then drawn up the detailed reply they proposed to make. About 150 men gathered at the entrance gates to'thn Parliamentary Grounds and subsequently, led by their organisers, waited quietly at the Bo wen street entrance to the Buildings until it was ascertained that a postponement of the time had been made. The crowd was quite orderly, and. there was some resentful comment concerning tho presence of two policemen.
