WAITRESS'S CLAIM

CHRISTCHUBCH, This Day. Counsel's addresses were heard by Mr. Justice Adams in the Supreme Court yesterday in the case in which Rita Gatehouse, a 17-year-old waitress, claimed from Herbert Benjamin Manttan, proprietor of the Silver Service Eitz Tearooms, damages amounting to S3IS6. Tho claim was made for injuries which the girl suffered on 3rd June, 1926. On the evening of that day she was serving in defendant's shop, and while she'was leaning across the counter her apron was set on' fire by an electric radiator which was placed on a shelf under tho counter. Before the girl could take her apron off, her dress was on fire, and she suffered front very sovero burns, being in hospital for eight months. ,
For tho defendant it was contended that the radiator was safe, and that the girl's own negligence was-the uawg of her being injured. ... ■ Judgment was seseireA,
