KAWARAU DAM
TO BE CLOSED TO-MORROW, j

_ DUNEDIN, This Day. J.ne JK.awarau River continues to fall steadily, and the gates will be closed at 9 a.m. to-morrow. At a meeting of th« company yesterday afternoon satisfactory reports of the conditions 'at Lake Wak*> "P" and the water sheds were received. lhe closing will be much earlier than anticipated. It was not expected that th« gates would be closed for mining purposes until 30th June. On-Saturday morning the lake level was lower than at the time pi closing last year. The,river just below the dam was at the 2ft 7in mark as against 3ft 4in last August when th« gates were closed chiefly to test their efficiency. All the tributaries are reported •ii % owv Ifc is exPected that the river will drop to its lowest level by to-morrow mg m', and mmm S should be commenced on lhursday morning.
