It has been decided by the Fanners* Union to hold the winter farm school* tor the Nelson and Marlborough districts on the following dates:—Blenheim, lltb. to 15th July; Hayelock ar.d Richmond, 9th and 10th August; Takaka, Uth and 12th, August. . • ■■..•-■'.' [_ The Moutere Hills branch of the Fruitgrowers' Association has recommended that the officers of the Horticultural Department, members of the Export Board, and delegates from growers' associations should confer in the Nelson district with a view of rjvising the regulations and grades in connection with coping with the mark* ed deterioration of Russett apples. Dr. Tillyard, of the Cawthron Institute, gave a very instructive and interesting lecture on Friday last on the subject of th« origin of flowering plants. He dealt with the matter in a very finished manner, and his audience was enlightened on many points which should considerably assist them in floriculture. The doctor also lectured on "Science and Travel."

The operations of the local Phrakefc Society were reviewed at a meeting on. Friday. It was shown that upwards o£ 2000 babies have benefited in the city by the ministrations of the society, whoso services are much appreciated.

The Golden Bay Eugby fixtures are ag follows: —2nd July, Motueka v. Golden Bay, at Takaka; 23rd July, Golden Bay v. Motueka, at Nelson; 13th August, Golden Bay v. Motueka, at Motueka. At a later date the Golden Bay-Motueka Union will send a representative team tn tour Buller, West Coast, and probably Canterbury and Marlborough, after which the Seddon Shield holders will be played.
