REEFTON COAL COMPANY.
The tenth annual report and balancesheet of the Reefton Coal Company, Ltd shows a loss of £1421. Mining and other costs, plus interest, were £17,6i9, sales of coal £15,654. Output from -mine 18,125 tons, of which 17.2& tons were sold and 900 tons used on the undertaking. Demand for screened coal has been excellent, but the company was unable to take full iidyantage'of it owing to scarcity of orik-rs for slack. Railway line, locomotive, end sheds are reported as in good order. Coal carried was 26,638 tons, including 9413 tons for adjoining owners. .The railway account showed-a net profit of £543. Careful practical attention had been paid to briquettmg, and further experiments are m progress. The company' proposes to issue £10,000 of the unallotted capital as cumulative preference nhares bearing interest 7 per cent, per annum. »
