CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
"That this meeting enters an. empha* tie protest against the action, of' the Defence Department in penalising boys attending the Technical College by forcing them to make up their lost time at drill"-was a resolution carried by a very large majority at a meeting of the combined apprenticeship committees and others interested in the training of apprentices, held in the Chamber of Commerce Hall on Saturday.
Mr. J. W. M'Gregor, of the Labour Department, said that they had applied to the Defence Department on the subject and reply was that the Defence Department would not forgo anything and that a boy missing parades had- to make up the time lost By extra days at the annual camp.
An amendment to the above motion, asking the Government to relieve em* ployeis of the necessity of paying full wages to apprentices while in camp was lost.
