GISBOBNE, This Day

The Gisborue grain and produce merchants express indignation at what they consider a wrong basis with reference to the cost of maize production arrived at by the special committee of. the New Zealand Grain, Seed, and Produce Merchants' Federation, appointed to make representations to- the Tariff Commission. The committee, considering the importance of the pork and poultry industries, recommended a reduction ou the present import duty on maize. The Gisborno merchants consider that the estimates quoted support a recommendation "for a reduction.
