EMPRESS THEATRE.

There is serio-comedy in both features of the change of programme at the Empress Theatre. Monte Blue and Dorothy Devore make swift action in "The Man .l^istairs,". a murder mystery. Marian Laniard seeks adventure, and through the agony column of her daily meets a globetrotter. The girl's craving for excitement leads to the hero staging a murder, all for her benefit, and the results, mystifying to a degree, are also ridiculously funny. The hero overdoes his "murder," but all ends well. To tell the plot would be to spoil the story's developments; suffice it to say, it is a completely satisfying kind of picture, one which will amuse and intrigue with. its unique situations. In. the second feature, Harrison Ford plays opposite Marie Preyost, and in the cast with them are Sylvia Breamer, and Phyllis Haver. "Up in Mabel's Room" is the breezy title of' this- comedy, concerning an ex-wife's scheme to win back the husband who has divorced her. Mabel learns after the divorce that Garry is the only man in her life, and she makes all sorts of overtures in an attempt to woo him. A black garment, elaborately embroidered, "from' Garry to Mabel," figures in the girl's scheme oMove-making, and hilarious effects' are obtained when it is produced at the wrong momenti Some wonderful gowns are worn by all the ladies concerned. An industrial picture is included on the.excellent bill.
