BROUGHT TO JUSTICE

AUCKLAND HOUSEBREAKERS

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day. Mr. Justice Herdman this morning sentenced Jack Johnston (28) and frank Bailer (24) to five years' hard labour, and declared them habitual criminals, on nine charges of breaking and entering and theft. Herbert Cooper, who was associated with them, was sentenced to twelve months' hard labour on one charge of theft.

The Judge took the opportunity of complimenting the police on bringing the prisoners to justice, and remarked that though house-breaking had been prevalent of late, there would be little to fear if those responsible for the investigation of crime were supported intelligently and sympathetically from the proper quarters.
