GISBORNB, This Day. Now. that the Government has decided to adopt the coastal route for tho railway between Gisborne and Wairoa, interest exists as to when it is proposes, to commence the construction. The Minister of Public Works (the Hon. K. S. Williams), when interviewed said that he could give.no indication as to the date. It depended entirley on how public moneys could be allocated. The suggestion made in Napier recently that the Government intends building a permanent highway in place of the railway was brought under the notice of the Minister, who did not appear to take the proposal seriously.
