VISIT TO ENGLAND

EU6BY, 30th May. A French naval squadron reached Spithead at mid-day, in brilliant weather, on a five days' visit at the invitation of the British Admiralty and the municipality of Portsmouth. They were greeted by thousands of spectators ashore and afloat, ,and on reaching their allotted positions fired a salute, to which the shore batteries replied.

This is the first visit by a French squadron since the war.
