LODGE MEETINGS

Ever since the inception of iStar of Mclrose Juvenik Temple, the parents have taken a keen interest iv tlie work of the children, and have been present ■ on many occasions at the meetings. Over twenty names were handed to the Grand Secretary Bro. Price, as an application for a charter to open an adult lodge. in the Melrose district, and on Wednesday eveainz last, G.L. and D.L. officers and members of sub-lodges attended at the Ratepayers' Hall to institute, the Loyal Melrose Lodge No. 53, 1.0. G.T. Bro. Hirst, p.C.T., opened the meeting, and assisting him were G.V.T; Sister Sirst, G. Sec. Bro. Price, Assistant-G. Sec. Sister G. Symington, D. Chaplain Sister Cullum, C T. Pioneer Lodge, Sister Devereux, G. Marshall Bro, Warren, D.M. Bro. Trcvclyan, "and D. Guard Bro. Cuthbert. Thirteen candidates were proposed for membership (two of whom were transferred from the juvenile temple). Bro. Hirst and his officers initiated the candidates. The officers were installed by Sister Hirst, G.V.T. as follows:-C.T., Bro. Munn; V.T., Sister Cross; Chaplain, Sister Fiirby, senior; Secretary, Bro; Cranmer; Marshal, Bro, Hutchison; treasurer, Bro. Fnrby; Finance Secretary, Sister Munn; Guard, Sitter Lamb; D.M., Sister E. Munn; AssistantSecretary, Sister Flaws; Pianist, Sister Furby, junior: P.C.T., Sister Wilson; L.D., Bro. Trevethick; Reporter, Sister Furby. Greeting* and good wishes were received from G.C.T. Broy Dalton, Duriedin,- G.L. Executive, District Lodge, Pioneer, Star of Wellington, Hope of Petone, and Unity (Sydney) Xodget. It was decided that the meeting night be Wednesday. At the last meeting of Court Sir George Bowen, A.0.P., the secretary presented the balance-sheet for the past quarter, which.showed the court to be in a very sound financial position, some £16,400 being invested by the trustees and earning the very good interest of 6.75 per cent. The 1921 valuation disclosed a surplus of £1591, and it is anticipated that the 1926 valuation, which is due shortly, will allow of an appropriation which will be used for the benefit of.members. It was resolved that in future the court meet in new buildings at 15, Lower Tory street. The delegates' report on dispensary. matters showed that during the last twelve months 66,848 prescriptions were made up by the dispensary, showing the advantage taken by members of ths particular benefit.
