The whaling ' season opened to-day with unfortunate results for whalers. E. C. Perano Company's Surprise struck a strong current at Tory Channel entrance, and Kelly Toms, the gunner, was thrown against a railing. A small bone of his arm was broken, and he was brought to the hospital for treatment.

J. C. Perano Company's fast new launch, Miss Liberty, made fast to a whal-< in the Strait this morning, but encountered a heavy southerly while towing the prize to the whaling station, with the result that the tow-rope had to be severed.
