OBITUARY

MR. CHARLES F. STEWART Mr. Charles Frederick. Stewart, who for over 40 years was manager for Messrs. Ballinger Bros., Wellington, died on Sunday evening at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Chccsman, Johnsonville. Although ho had been ailing for some little timio the lato Mr. Stewart was only confined to his bed for a few weeks. The deceased gentleman, who lived pract'ically all his life m Wellington, was born in Victoria 68 years ago. His family came to New Zealand when he was quite young, settled in Wellington and became very w’Ml known to the early - residents of the colony. The whole family wore very musical, the deceased being bandmaster of the first cadet drum and fife band of tho Te Aro School Cadets, who wqre the proud possesors. of colours presented.by the aunts of Mr. Baillie, the Chief City Librarian, and. it was one of tho sights of the town when the cadets .marched out-headed by the band of which his brother Jack, and Mr. George Howo wero leading drummers. Although not taking part in active sports the late Mr. Stewart was a great enthusiast, and gave liberally to the various cricket, football, and yachting clubs. Indirectly lie was responsible for the planting of the different reserves, in which ho took a keen interest. The late Mr. Stewart, who was unmarried, was very popular amongst a wide circle of friends. . • ■ ,
