ZIMBALIST.

An event of more than ordinary interest will be the first appearance here of the world famous violinist, Efrem Zimbalist, who will be heard in three recitals in the Wellington Town Hall on 24th, 26th, and 28th May. Zimbalist recently concluded in New York a series of joint recitals with the celebrated pianist Josef-Hofmann in which the artists divided the honours of the most successful performances of the musical year. As one of the trinity or brilliant technicians, the others being lilman and Heifetz, who some few years ago revealed to an astonished world the superiority of the revolutionary teaching methods of Leopold Aver, Zimbalist's technical equipment is beyond question. Allied to an incredible finger dexterity, and compelling bowing, he possesses a purity or tone and freedom from emotional exaggeration which places him at once in the category, of classic players. No small part of the famous' violinist's world-wide triumph on the concert platform is attributed to the charm of a personality which illumines all his playing, whether of classic, romantic, or modern works, with a depth of meaning and colour unknown to all except a very few of the greatest interpreters of music. Like his confrere Fritz Kreisler, NZimbalißt is a prolific composer, particularly' of violin music.. During his Wellington season he will present a number of works from his own pen, including several, such as the Hebrew Melodies, well-known to gramophone enthusiasts. Preferential booking may now be made at The Bristol Piano Co
