RENEE KELLY.
One of the most interesting events of the year will be the New Zealand debut of Renee Kelly at the Grand Opera House, ou Tuesday 24th May. With this fascinating actress are a number of well-known London players, who will also make their first appearance in this country. Everybody interested in the stage lias heard of the remarkable success achieved by Miss Kelly in "Daddy Longlegs." After having played this part for 18 months in America she went to London and continued in the role for more than 500 performances at the Duke of York's Theatre. Altogether she has played it more than 2000 times, and it is possible she may be Judy in New Zealand. This actress has portrayed many kinds of parts, ranging from strong drama to farcical comedy* but will make her first appearance here as Polly. The invitation to make her New Zealand debut in this part is a tribute to her versatility. It is not only new to her; but it is a dual role. 'Tolly With a Past" tells a pleasantly transparent story, where the main course of events is obvious from the first. But there are agreeable little surprises on the way—a state of affairs which is said to be the prime essential.of light comedy The producer of the' piece is Hylton Allen, who will also appear on the stage. Mr. Allen has produced many plays in which Renee Kelly has appeared. "French Leave, which was so popular here, was one of his London productions. The original opening date in Wellington had to be put forward a week on account of Miss Kelly s great success in Australia. Box plans open on Thursday next.
