CRISIS IN FLORIDA

SEVERAL BANKS SUSPEND

PAYMENT

(Received 15th March, 2.15 p.m.)

MONTREAL, 14th March. West Palm Beach (Florida) is faced with a serious financial panic following the closing of three more banks." The Farmers' Bank and Trust Company long regarded as one of the strongest banks in Florida, failed to open tp-day causing the immediate failure of two others ? without previous announcement. Six banks in the district have now closed down within a week, nine in less than a year. Frenzied depositors stand in groups about the streets, and runs" are feared on the remaining banks. .Other institutions are attempting to import funds from Miami and Jacksonville to check the panic. No chartered bank is now open at Palm Beach as a result, if the failures, and it_ is indicated that members of the millionaire colony may be compelled to take a hand in the situation.
