OBJECTION TO POSTER
DIVIDED OPINIONS
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Pott.") AUCKLAND, This Day. A criticism of a poster on the main .road, near the Mount Eden Railway Station, was voiced at a meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening when a letter was received from the Women's Christian Temperance Union asking that the advertisement should be i-emoved or painted over. "I am not straight-laced, but I think that the picture is over the odds," said Mr. D. C. Frazer. "It is altogether objectionMr. J. M. Melville: "Well, I have been past there every morning and have never noticed it." The Town Clerk said that it was definitely laid down that a bylaw could not be framed on any question o£ religion or morality. ' The Mayor, Mr. E. H. Potter, said that he was present r-. 4 <->ie picture advertised, and enjoyed i:. __s saw nothing to object to. I Mr. G. L. Taylor: "The poster would look all right on the beach and would not be out of place on the stage, but it is not ' in keeping with a main street." It was decided to reply to the letter stating that the council was not empowered to interfere with the erection of posters.
