AT PAPAWAI
WAIRARAPA MEETING
SOME GOOD PERFORMANCES
Marksmen of note who intend to compete at the National Rifle Association's meeting at Trentham are numerous at the Wairarapa Rifle Association's thirtysecond annual championship meeting, which opened at Papawai yesterday in fine weather. No fewer than nine previous Belt winners are competing, including last year's champion, L. A. Caldwell (Karori), and the shooting yesterday was of a very high standard, considering the tricky conditions which ruled. Caldwell put on a solid 49 in the second 600 yards match, and he also won the short range aggregate (four ranges), with a score of 183. The teams' match was won by Featherston, who just defeated Greytown by one point. With five matches, gone the leaders for the Belt are. as follow:— H. Koppert (Oamaru), 228; B. Holmes (Wanganui), 227; R. J. King (Opaki) 227; C. Whiteman (Upper Hutt), 227; T. Orr (Greytown), 226; K. Anderson (Taihape), 226.
