NEW MENTAL HOSPITAL

AUCKLAND, This Day. An area of 050 acres of land in the Karaka district near Manukau foreshore lias been acquired under the Public Works Act a,s a site for a new mental hospital. The area secured is described as excellent farming land, a poVtion being very rieli swamp which will be suitable for market gardening. A portion of the area has been owned by Natives, and is locally known as Pututahi. It is proposed to erect a large general mental hospital to accommodate about a thousand patients, this extension being necessary to relieve the present congestion at Avon dale.
