PETITION TO PRIME MINISTER

TIMAEU, 11th March,

A mooting ot' the Farmers' Union hero to-day had a long' discussion on the wheat question. The meeting, which was a large and representative one, unanimously decided to promote a petition to the Prime Minister, asking the Government to give adequate protection to the wheat-growing industry.

It was stated that the Government was acting against the interests of consumers and workers,' as well as of producers, in allowing Australian flour to come in as at present; that the unemployment problem was bound to be acute' so long as so little wheat was grown; and that the price could be stabilised at Gs a bushel, with a. guarantee of no increase on the present price of bread.
