O'Donovan appeared for the S.P.C.A. and Mr. J. J. M'Grath. for the accused. The evidence for the prosecution was that Quirke, in attempting to back his lorry into an alleyway, had struck one of the horses about the head several times with a Btick. The blows were delivered with considerable force. For the defence, however, it was stated that Quirke was a very considerate man with his horses, and always treated them with kindness. The animal alleged to have been struck did not show on examination any signs of ill-usage.
