ROTARY CONFERENCE

GREETINGS FROM JAPAN CARE FOR THE YOUTH (Bf Telegraph —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. The business of the fifth annual conference of the New Zealand Rotary Clubs was concluded yesterday. When the conference assembled Mr. Charles Rhodes, ■ the acting-district governor, read a cablegram from the five Japanese Kotary Clubs at Tokio, Osaka. Magoya, Kobe, and Kyoto, which joined in sending most cordial greetings and best wishes for a most successful. conference. "Wo Rotarians feel very happy in working under the world fellowship for the promotion of general welfare and the advancement of the highest degree of civilisation through the spirit of rotary service," added tlie cablegram. A. cablegram extending greetings was also read from Italy. Various group committees drew up recommendations. The most important was a recommendation that New Zealand should be divided into four rotary divisions. It was resolved to leave the question of boundaries until a later date. A recommendation, which also was unanimously adopted, suggested that one of the most important needs of the day was the inculcation into the younger geueration of a sense'of reverence and responsibility. It suggested that Rotarians as employers be urged to take the very keenest interest in the younger members of their staffs, not only in the direction of their business but in the formation of character. A recommendation that the next annual conference be held at Palmerston North was adopted. Mr. Charles Ehodes was unanimously elected district governor for New Zealand fo.- the year. The Coltman Cup, presented by Mr. W. Coltman, president of the Auckland Club, for competition among delegates from various clubs at conferences, was won by the Invcrcargill Club. The main conditions were the percentage of attendance in. regard to membership and the number of miles travelled.
