University degrees which have hitherto been con-ferred at public gatherings are now to be conferred only at meetings of the New Zealand University Council until such time as amending legislation is passed • providing other? wise. A resolution to this effect was carried by the council, which also decided that any public ceremony could only be the handing-over of a diploma or congratulation of the recipient. .
