' •■-■■■ AUCKLAND, This; Day,, 1 The New Zealand University Council concluded its sittings yesterday.
> It was resolved that the: Wellington Becess Committee should deal with matters ■of urgency. not coming within the province of the Chancellor or Vice? ..Chancellor, such, as i: financial matters,ease's of war disability,.and publication' of examination results, except 1 such as were provided for. It was also decided that the members of the council resident in the other university districts should constitute committees for those districts to 'deal with such matters as might be referred to them. , . University degrees which have hitherto been con-ferred at public gatherings are now to be conferred only at meetings of the New Zealand University Council until such time as amending legislation is passed • providing other? wise. A resolution to this effect was carried by the council, which also decided that any public ceremony could only be the handing-over of a diploma or congratulation of the recipient. .
' A resolution preventing the conferring of degrees in absentia, except in special circumstances, was rescinded:
