PICNICS.

In days gone by the various dairymen in the city always made a feature of their annual picnic, but of late years, since the Corporation took over the: business, the picnics have been dropped. On Thursday last, however, the first of what is hoped to be the .forerunner of many more picnics, was held at Day's Bay, and proved a great success, an energetic committee, with Miss Burton as secretary, having made complete arrangements for all to enjoy themselves. All members who could be spared from duty were present, .and as every employee who attended had to finish his ordinary day's work before going, to the picnic it was encouraging to the committee to see such a full muster present. The success of the first picnic augurs well for/future functions of this kind. A full Bports programme was provided for young' and old, games were indulged in, and a very enjoyable " day concluded with a dance in the pavilion in the evening.
