BIBLE SOCIETY'S YEAR.
.Ihe annual meeting of the New Zealand council of the British and Foreign Bible bociety held yesterday was attended by members of. the council from Auckland Wellington, and Christchurch. Messrs. G A. Troup, T. Ballinger, W. Hopkirk. / C. Port, and W. J. Helyer represented the .London committee of the society. Mr E P. Hay and Mr. R. L. Button represented the Wellington Auxiliary. The president (Mr. G. A. Troup) commented on the fact that in the work of the society all the churches were working together in a world work of the utmost importance. The society stood for the distribution of the Bible without note or comment. He regretted that so vast a literature had grown up round the Scriptures, to the detriment of an impartial reading of its pages. The society had issued at least one book of the Scriptiires in 587 languages, and had, since its foundation sent out over 365,000,000 copies. Last year the issue had been nearly 10,500,000 copies Ihe part New Zealand had played in the work: ot distributing tile Scriptures had been a noble one. Gratification was expressed at a legacy of £50 left by the late Mrs. Maunsell for the Pocket Testament Fund.
