HIS FIRST EARNED MONEY
Sir Daniel Gooeh, third baronet, died on 2nd December, at his home, 'Tatehbury Mount, Totton, Hampshire, at the age of 57. The late Sir Daniel Gooch accompanied Shackleton's 1914 Antarctic Expedition as far as South Georgia. Ho had signed on as an able seaman in the Endurance, the expedition ship, and was one of the men in charge of the dogs on board. Owing to the many claims upon him at Home, Sir Daniel left the ship on sth December 1014, being paid off, when discharged, with & shilling. H e sa ia that it was tlio first he had ever earned. Sir Daniel GoocTi is succeeded by his son, Mr. Robert Douglas, who- is 21 years of age.
