The Condamine River tragedy, in which seven out of a party of eleven lost their lives, was due to the boat striking a snag /while- proceeding down the river. With the current travelling at a swift pace it is a miracle that any were saved.

The. four survivors out of the eleven occupants managed to reach a tree. They hung to that till a rowing boat, which had to be carried ten miles by a tractor, arrived and rescued them.
