INFORMATION DESIRED

(Special to "The Evening Post.") CHRISTCHURCH, Bth February. That the basis upon which the promised dumping duties on imported wheat are to be calculated should be made . public by the Customs Department was recommended by the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last night. It was decided to telegraph to the Minister of Customs asking him to have the basis defined.

Such would remove much misapprehension, said "Mr. W. Machin, who introduced the subject. Buyers jmrticularly. were apprehensive, he said. It was assumed that the basis of calculation would be as outlined by Mr. David Jones, M.P., but it would do no harm to clear the atmosphere and thus do a service to agriculture. Mr. C. H. Hewlett: "There is a big difference of- opinion ;about the- dumping duty."

A motion that the Minister be asked to define the basis was carried unanimously.
