PETONE-HUTT CAS BOARD
The monthly meeting- of the Petbne- and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board was held last evening. Present: Mr. W. G. Lodder (chairman), Messrs. A. Anderson, J. Pipers C. P. Brockelbank,.W. Meldrum, and S. Clendotf. ■ .■ - ..•'-,"
The chairman stated that owing to th« strike the cost of a gas-holder required'by the board had been raised by £300; Mr. J. H. Biss inquired when gag would be available in Maire street, Lower Hutt. The action of the secretary, in replyingthat gas would be available in fo"ur or five weeks, was approved. - - A petition from fifteen residents of Korokoro for the reticulation of the.district was received. The manager stated that it would require .two miles of mains, and would cost from £900 to £1000. It was decided to hold byef consideration- of: this matter until- the neifc meeting." The board agreed to .an exchange, of land with the Commissioner of = Crown Lands to enable Bouverie street to bY extended. •., . . ':.'
The gas works manager (Mr. H. Appleyard) reported that during January 644 tons of coal had been carbonised, making 6,765,100 cubic feet of gas, an average" oE 12,430 cubic feet per tori of coaL There had been an increased make over January^ • 1926, of 1,048,200 feet, which was the record increase. The average calorific vahia of the gas was 497 British thermal units, or 22 units above the requirement- of the New Zealand regulations.. The stocks of. coal were low owing to supplies not having come to hand when ordered. Thai board had sold 97 tons of coke'and 8050 gallons of tar during the month and 38 cookers and 48 new services had been in>.i stalled. ." ."■.'■ """ —■-•
