CAUGHT IN THE ACT
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evenino Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day. A constable, while patrolling his beat in Symonds street about midnight, observed a young man in the act of opening a window of Tutt's mercery with a jemmy. The marauder called on confederates for assistance that was not forthcoming, and after a desperate encounter the constable overpowered and handcuffed him.
This morning the man, Herbert Kilburn (17), was charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime, and was remanded on £150 bail. It was stated that a suit and a pair of trousers had been stolen from the shop, which had been entered by forcing a strong iron bar from the window. Evidently an attack was being made from a more convenient quarter when the constable came along.
