VERY HOT DAY

(By Telearapn.}

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

CHRISTCHURCH, ,7th Feb. At 1.48 p.m. yesterday the temperature mounted to 89.2 degrees, the highest that has been recorded this season. The beaches attracted many hundreds of surf bathers. There has been a wonderful run of hot dry weather of late, and the continued absence of rain has caused the pastures to wither off. A steady soaking downpour is badly needed to relieve the present position, which almost amounts to a drought from the pastoralists' viewpoint.
