The Plunkef Shield match between Otago and Canterbury was continued today on an excellent wicket and in beautiful weather.

Otago made the modest score of 204 in their first strike, Merritt, who took five wickets for 4S, being mainly responsible for the failure of the home batsmen. Blunt .was the only member of the side to shape confidently, and carried his bat for 131 after a fine display, .with equal facility on both sides of the wicket. :

Blunt was able to bowl' .only",'three overs, in Canterbury^ second.innines, owing to an injury to his fingers. None of the Otago. bowlers was effective, and when stumps; were; drawn the visiting: batsmen had compiled the . formidable total of 261 for five -wickets. Scores are as follow:— CANTERBURY.
