Police and summons cases were dealt withl iv the Magistrate's Court on Friday by Mr. B. K. Hunt, S.M. . .:

The theft of. a suitcasq and Its contents, an overcoat, and a tie,' of a total value of £22 15s 6d, was admitted by Thomas Wilkinson, a labourer, aged 23. The accused, who has six previous convictions for theft, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.

A fine of £5, in default fourteen days* imprisonment, was imposed on Alfred Holt, a labourer, aged 40, who was convicted of stealing an overcoat from outside a shop. He was remanded to appear at Masterton next Friday on a charge of stealing another overcoat. -■■

Adams Bruce, Ltd., were fined £2 on each of two charges of having allowed female employees to work after 1 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon.

For breaches of the Scaffolding Act, 1,. Llbcau was fined £7 103, W. Jordan £5, and E. It. Glass and Webley and Field £1 each.

George Rennie, t>a seaman, aged 41, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for soliciting alms in Willis street.

The theft of. a Jar of sweets worth 12s 6d from a shop on Lambton quay was admitted by Frank Hurley, a carpenter, aged 27. Tho Magistrate imposed a fine of £2, in default fourteen days' imprisonment.

Found by night on enclosed premises, Peter M'Rae, a labourer, ased 19, explained that he had nowhere elao to sleep. Sub-Inspector Harvey stated that M'Hao was last May admitted: to three years' probation on a charga of theft, but had until now observed the terms of tha order. After warning the accused that if he came before tho Court again he was likely to ba sentenced for the thoft, the Magistrate convicted and discharged him.

Second offenders for drunkenness, Hugh Shannon, a labourer, aged 45; Michael Melville, a boilermaker, aged 57; Martin Walsh, a fireman, aged 48j and Louisa Maltland, a married woman, aged 59, were each fined 10a in default 48 hours' imprisonment. , Charged with having forged ■ the; name of E. E. Watts to a cheque, and with having caused Patrick Michael Barry to act upon it as if it wore genuine, George Baden Powell Gough, a barman, aged 37, was remanded to appear at Blenheim next -Tuesday.
