WINGATUI NOTES

The recent heavy rain completely saturated the Wingatui tracks and has put the plough gallop out of action for a few days, it w?il, however, benefit rather than damage the inside of the course proper, and if favourable weather : continues until the meeting the racing will be got off on good going. The inside grass, which was open for work on. Thursday morning, was a bit on the sloppy side in places, particularly where it has been top-dressed, says the "Otago Daily Times." It; ia a matter of regret that just as the" grass gallops are coming back to shape after the severe chopping up they received in' the early spring, bad weather forces the caretaker to open them up again owing to the plough track being unfit /for use. Ou Thursday the inside grass track was busily occupied by horses engaged at-the Dimedin Cup Meeting,' taking place on Thursday and Saturday of next .week. Pink Note and Pink Terrace strode out freely over a full circuit begun at the winning post, and pulled up ■well after travelling at a good three-quarter pace. Comic Song and. Arpent galloped a sound seven furlongs and kept in" company without being hustled in their task. Both horses pulled up well,.and the going should assist in getting Comic • Song ready for a race at the meeting. Daiicing Days was allowed to run along over a short journey, and galloped in her usual; free style. • . • „ Baton Bells and an unnamed gelding were, allotted steady work, and Miss Winkie did not go beyond half-pace over a couple of circuits.

iCorn Money was allowed to run along and shaped well in the mud. Vaward and Mlartis worked over a mile at a sound pace, and Father O'Flynn was allowed to bowl alori*g over a sound six furlongs.-. .. ,'• The two-year-olds Ark Royaland Tembroney centered,, and "were then allowed to stride out after turning into the straight.^ ■■ ■. . • • . • • Coastguard 1 was too good for San Salvador in a school over four flights of hurdles, and Cartoon and Adjutor were also treated to a school over the same task. Cartoon slipped when taking oft at the last hurdle, but screwed himself back to safety on his legs when landing. An. interesting school was provided by Anay leading Pamplona and Galway over three fences and the .stand double. Each of the trio shaped well, but imparted Ithe most dash into his work. Others out doing useful tasks included Receipt, Black Duke, Black Prince, Rob, Battle Colours, Tholomon, Wingatui, Lady Tractor, and King Sol.
