The match betweea Auckland and tho touring Melbourne cricketers was resumed this morning in glorious weather. Jewell and Campbell continued the first wicket partnership. Jewell snicked Matheson's second ball, and was taken at the wickets by Scott. 20—1—12. . "'.
Onyons followed. Allcott took up the attack at the other end, and sent down a maiden. Onyons leg-glanced Allcott for three, the first scoring stroke in twelve minutes' play. Campbell then got Matheson to the leg boundary. After a quiet spell, caused by excellent bowling and keen fielding, Onyons hit Allcott for a single, and deflected Matheson for a brace. Campbell played a few balls from Allcott, and then placed a soft catch in Anthony's hands at short leg. 30—2—8,
•Tom Armstrong, a left hander, followed. Allcott at this stage had sent down three overs for a wicket and one run. Only ten had been made for '25 minutes' batting.' After singles by both Armstrong and Onyons, the former stepped in front of a straight one from Allcott. 32—3—1.
