COUNTY ANNIVERSARY

MARTON, 4th February. The fiftieth anniversary of tho Eangitikei County Council was celebrated yesterday by a gathering of the council ■ and ex-members. The party included the Hon. E. Newman, Messrs. W. S. Glenn and P. F. Hockly, M.P.'s, and Mr. C. M. Galpin, a pioneer who settled m the Eangitikei in 1856. An interesting historical. sketch •of the county's history was read by Mr. H. H. Bichardson, who has been clerk for 34 years, showing the remarkable progress of what is now claimed to be the most important county in the Dominion.
