ELECTRIC LINES
GOVERNMENT INSPECTION"
(By Teleoraph.) (Special to "The Eveni'' Post.")
PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. .Most of our members will be aware niv I*™ ev»den% the intention of the Public Works Department to annually inspect all electric lines within the respective boards area o£ supply whether such lines nave previously been inspected or not stated Mr. C. Campbell (Invercargill) at the Power Board Secretaries' Conference yesterday. "I think we are justified in asking the Department to state its definite intention regarding this matter, and to give an approximate of the annual fees which the boards will have to provide for when making up their estimates. No doubt some form of inspection is necessary but whether the Department is justified in making an extensive annual inspection at fairly heavy costs to boards is a question which we should ask the Engineers' committee to consider."
Dealing with this subject of inspection, Mr. F. T. M. Kissel, Chief Electrical Engineer, . remarked, * that the Government inspectional staff was being increased, but almost solely because of the tremendous increase in lines. If the supply authorities complied > with the regulations then the departmental work would be very easy, but when boards endeavoured to get behind the regulations, the work of the Department was going to be increased, which would inevitably reflect upon the board by way of increased costs. It was not intended to make an annual inspection where it was found that power boards were complying with the Government requirements.
