LYALL BAY SCHOOL.
The monthly meeting of the Lyall Bay School Committee was held on Tuesday evening, the chairman (Mr. A. E. Haswell) presiding. The headmaster (Mr. A. C. Blake), in his report, stated, that the school opened in the morning with 727 pupils. It was suggested, that the reappointment of an attendance officer, who would visit the schools after a long vacation, would have a beneficial effect on the attendance of scholars. On the attendance of last year the school had been raised a sub-grade, and an additional assistant would be required.
Of four candidates presented for the Junior National Scholarship Examination, two secured scholarships and the other two qualified.
The committee decided to hold the annual school picnic at Maidstone Park on Thursday, 17th February. The school district will be canvassed for funds, as no charge will be made for scholars and ex-scholars, a small charge only being made for parents, residents, and friends.
