CLAIMS OF THE DISTRICT.

The claims of the East Vogeltown district for the.carrying out of certain improvements wero placed before the City Council last evening by representatives of the East Vogeltown Progressive Association.

Mr. G. B. Watson, president of the association, said that the East Vogeltown district had made a very marked advance in the last two years, and that advance called for certain improvements.' One direction in which improvements were needed was in regard to the means 'of access to East Vogeltown. Several of the 'streets, particularly Hutchison road, were in urgent need of attention. Residents of the district were aIBO looking forward, -io the time when the play area would be an accomplished fact.

The remarks of Mr. Watson were supported by Mr. W. J. Vaney, who called particular attention to the need for footpaths in the district. Attention should also be paid to the storm water drainage system, insufficiency of which haa given rise to many serious complaints.

Eeplying to the deputation, the Mayor (Mr. C. B. Norwood) said that the council appreciated the difficulties with which the residents were faced. One of the big problems facing the council was the best means of obtaining a properly graded access to the heights in the vicinity. Eepresentations made by the deputation would receive the earnest consideration of the council.
