MUTTON AND LAMB TRADE.
The Australian and.South American mutton and lamb trade is being closely watched by the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board. That body publishes to-day figures for' each month,' January to December, and shipments made by the countries above-named. 1 ' The-totals.'in carcasses are as follow:— '. ' Lamb. • South America ..... 2,625,546 2,812,716 Australia ....../.... 348,497^ :. 1,590,032 Quarters of mutton' and lamb shipped month by month greatly vary according to the "table's/ but they are heaviest in lamb at the end of.the calendar year by both Australia and South America, in the case of the latter country they are .usually least in August and September, and last year Australian shipments were down in. April to 268 carcasses mutton, and in June to 8327 lambs. It will be noticed that for the.twelve months ended 31st December, 1926, South; American shipments were less by 546,552 carcasses mutton, ; and} by *! 839,423 lambs.. Australian mutton.increases were 20,085 sheep and 168,906 lambs.
