SYDNEY'S NEW LORD MAYOR
FORMERLY COUNCIL EMPLOYEE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, 16th December. The now Lord Mayor of Sydney (Aldormail Mostyn), unlike his predecessor, tho popular "Paddy " Stokes, is not a man of what might be termed aldcrmanic proportions physically. Slight of build and thin of face, ho is, in fact, siugularly unlike the traditional alderman. The youngest alderman, to occupy the post of Chief Citizen of Sydney, and a New South Welshman by birth, he is yet another example of the_ opportunities that are open to people in Australia. At one time ho was an employee of the council over which -ho will now preside. Later ho became organiser of tho Electrical Trades' Union, of which lie is at present secretary. His wife, who. is credited, with being an excellent hostess, will have ample opportunities during tho visit of tho Duke and Duchess .of York to display her ability in that respect. The new Lord Mayor succeeds a man who, although strongly Labour in his leanings, was popular even among; tho Reformers, because of a likeable personality and tho fact that, in the social discharge of his office, he never allowed his political tenots to influence him.
