LONG SERVICE
SIR JAMES WILSON RETIRES,

PALMERSTON N., This Day,
In recognition of his long services to the district, particularly as chairman of the Manawatu County Council for twenty-eight years, Sir James Wilson, who has now retired, was met at-San-son by a representative gathering and presented with an illuminated address. Impressivo tributes were paid to Sir James concerning his public activities, and many speakers eulogised his action in having given so many years of his life in the service of the community on many bodies. It was mentioned that Sir James Wilson never accepted a penny of honorarium during his long office' as chairman. He had made this a condition when appointed. "The opportunity to serve is not afforded to everyone," said Sir James Wilson, "I am thankful that I havo had the opportunity. ' ' y
