LAWN TENNIS
PUBLIC SCHOOLS' CHAMPIONSHIPS.
. A great effort is being made by the executive of the Public Schools' Tennis Association to' cater for the. hundreds of children~-boyß and girls—who have entered for the public schools' tennis championships, which start to-morrow rooming. Children are assembling from all parts of the Wellington district to take part in the championships, and the matches promise to be most keenly contested. The school gaining the most points in the five events will hold the Ferguson Challenge Cup for the year. Mr. P. H. Paul is the new secretary of the School Association, and as he is a most enthusiastic worker in the cause of tennis the sport should boom again in the schools, as it did when Mr. W. J. Melody held the office. An appeal is made to tennis enthusiasts of the city to assist at this great gathering of young players. Ladies who can offer their services as umpires for to-morrow morning will assist the movement by getting in touch by telephone with Mr. Paul, 120, Derwent street, Island Bay, this evening. Fully 25 umpires are required at Miramar, and as many more at the city courts. Play starts at' 8 a.m.
