BAND CONTEST

RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED.

A meeting of the Band Contest Committee was held last evening, Mr. H. D. Bennett presiding over a full attendance of members. ' ,

The Rugby Union wrote granting the use of the Athletic Park for the marching contest at a fee of 15 per cent, on tho net takings. The offer was accepted.

Tho secretary (Mr. G. W. Jenner) stated that tho entries'received constituted a record, the solo entries being particularly heavy, and showing an increase of 117 over the last Wellington contest. Comparisons between the Wellington 1927 entries and thoso of the Dunedin Exhibition contest showed a largo margin in favour of Wellington, the figures being 459 and 407 respectively.

Major-General Young, Commandant of the New Zealand Military Forces, wrote granting leave of absence from Military duties to any bandsmen engaged at the contest.

Mr. E. Palliser was appointed supervisor, and Messrs. W. M'Lachlan and C. Forrest assistant-supervisors.

It was decided to register the society under tho Incorporated Societies Act, and tho draft rules wero adopted.

Tho Housing Committee reported on the accommodation available, and this was ordered to bo sent to all competing bands.
