(Special to "The Evening Post.")

PALMERSTON N., This Day. At the quarterly meeting of the Palmorston North Licensing Committee yesterday; plans were submitcd by Mr. Oram for the erection of a new hotel in Cuba street to take over the license of the Clarendon Hotel. After considering the plans, the chairman (Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M.) stated that the committee could not approve of them because it was intended to provide less accommodation than at the present hotel. Further, the committee saw no reason why another hotel should be built in the neighbourhood of the main street. Mr. Oram mentioned that the plans provided for walls of sufficient strength to enable a third story to. be added at any time. The Chairman. "Palmerston North is a growing town. We cannot allow little hotels to grow up." More accommodation, he added, would have to be provided if the plans were to be approved. Mr. Oram. "There are rpoins in the present building that are not used."

Mr. Stout. "The committee will consider nothing with less accommodation than the present Clarendon Hotel. Moreover, we noticed in the plans that some of the bedrooms were the size of a box.
