POLICE SCANDAL
ABSCONDING DETECTIVE

(United Press Association.—Copyright.) MELBOURNE, sth December. Ex-Detective Fowler has surrendered to the police, by whom ho is charged with conspiracy aud theft, and remanded on bail till 9th December.
With three other members of tho Victorian detective force, Fowler was charged with conspiracy and theft of £1000, and demanding, with menaces, £6uoo from Terence Callaghan, licensee of the Londonderry Hotel, Collingwood. Before -the prisoners came to trial Fowler disappeared.
