TRAMWAYS BAND CONCERT.
There was a large attendance at the Tramways Band's concert in His Majesty's Theatre last evening. The singing of "In Silent Mead" by the Aeolian Quartette was a musical treat, and this talented body of harmonisers had to respond to a treble encore. As a flautist Mr. Claude Tucker stands supreme, and his rendering of "Wind Amongst the Trees" brought forth prolonged applause, as also did his encore number. Miss-Ngaire Coster possesses a very sweet voice, and was heard to advantage in "My Dear Soul," and Mr. T. Wood's singing of "Lighterman Tom" was also very fine. Both had to respond to encores. Mr. Hilton Osborne (by kind permission of Messrs. Fuller) delighted with "Where'd You Get Those Eyes?" and "Wipers," to muted band accompaniment, the latter number having to be repeated. The playing of the band was of a very high standard and the items much appreciated. The band opened with the hymn,'"Like .as the Hart," followed by the "Australasian." inarch; then followed the incidental music from "The Merchant of Venice," concluding with a magnificent rendering of the selection "William Tell." Mr. J. Haydbck proved a highly efficient accompanist.
